Plasma Tvs

A plasma display panel (PDP) is an option used for large TV displays, usually about 30 40 inch. Many tiny cells located between two panels of glass hold an inert mixture of noble gases. The gas in the cells are are electrically turned into plasma which then emit light.

Brief History of the Plasma TV

The plasma video display was invented in 1964 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by Donald L. Bitzer, H. Gene Slottow, and graduate student Robert Willson. The original monochrome (orange, green, yellow) video display panels were very popular in the early 1970s because they were rugged and needed neither memory nor circuitry to refresh the images.

The plasma screen was first introduced as a computer monitor screen in the early 80's by IBM. This particular one was 19 inch and orange on black.

It wasn't until 1992 that Fujitsu introduced the first 21 inch full colour display, this was a hybrid plasma monitor created at the university of Illinois.

In 1997 Fujitsu introduced the first 42 inch plasma screen, pioneer soon followed that up by selling one of the first plasma tv screens to the public.

Screen sizes have been able to increase since the introductions of plasma televisions. As a result LG Tv's are offered in a wide and varied range

Until recently, the Plsam TV had the upper hand on the LCD television screen. The plasma TV was reknown for its superior brightness, faster response times, wider viewing angle and better colour spectrum. As a result a plasma tv was regarded more popular with HDTV flat panel displays. For quite a while it was firmly believed that LCD television technology was only better suited to smaller sized screens.

However, improvements in LCD TV technology have narrowed the technological gap. The low weight, falling prices, higher available resolution, which is important for HDTV, and often lower electrical power consumption of LCDs make them competitive against plasma displays in the television set market.
